The P-40E Warhawk was one of the most important early U.S. fighter aircraft of World War II. While it wasn’t the most advanced plane of the war, it played a critical role when the Allies needed fighters immediately.
This is the plane flown by Lt. Sidney S. Woods of the
49th Fighter Group 9th Fighter Squadron. During his tour with the 49th F.G. he downed a Betty Bomber and Zero before transferring to Europe where he scored 8 more victories and won the Silver Star.
